Madrid's famous Reina Sofia Museum, officially named Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS), gets ready to host foreign visual art.
Belgian, Russian, French and Italian artists are among some of the international artists appearing in the Spanish-dominated museum, adding more spice to its collection.
October:
Joëlle Tuerlinckx: “Crystal Times, Reflection without Sun, Reflections Aimless” – The Belgian artist Joëlle Tuerlinckx (Brussels, 1958) presents his first solo exhibition in Spain. This is a launch made for the Crystal Palace where the artist works subtly recreating and enhancing the unique lighting conditions of the 19th century pavilion fromOctober 9, 2009 - February 22, 2010 at Crystal Palace, Sabatini Building, 3rd floor rooms final Pool A
Francesco Lo Savio -Francesco Lo Savio (Rome, 1935 - Marseille, 1963) was an artist who led a short life and career. Despite this, his works were short but fruitful and influential. The artist managed to take part in different artistic movements and even create a new language in five years. Lo Savio had a foreboding character in movements that were coming towards the end of the sixties. Exhibitios starts from October 14, 2009 - January 11, 2010, located at Building A, Sabatini, 4th Floor, Rooms 406 and 407.
Rodchenko and Popova: “Defining Constructivism”-This exhibition is seen as one of the most important in the season and features the work of Liubov Popova (1889 -1924) and Alekxander Rodchenko (1891-1956), two essential figures of the stylistic and theoretical training of Russian Constructivism. The sample curated by Margarita Tupitsyn gives a complete review of this artistic movement that changed the face of Russian art and is on display from October 21, 2009 - January 11, 2010, located at the Sabatini Building, Room A1.
“Encuentros de Pamplona 72: End of experimental Art Festival - This is regarded as the most international of the museum’s art festivals which aims to review the experimental art of 1972. The term experimental at the time referred to the works that called into question the material limits of their own environment. The exhibition starts from October 28, 2009 - February 22, 2010.
Francis Alys: “Fabiola”- The beginning of this exhibition is in the works of French painter Jean-Jacques Henner (1829-1905) entitled “Fabiola”. Francis Alys has been collecting numerous works on the saint Fabiola, representing the saint of the same name who lived in Rome, made in a variety of materials and by different authors. Pieces will be on display from October 28, 2009 - February 21, 2010.
November:
Georges Vantongerloo: “A yearning for the infinite" - The exhibitions Vantongerloo have been scarce despite being one of the most important thinkers in the 20th century art world. Curated by Guy Brett, the museum will show the basis of his work in which the re-conceptualization of pictorial and sculptural space marked the artistic trends of abstract art of the early 20th century. Exhibition starts from November 4, 2009 - February 25, 2010, located at the Sabatini Building, 3rd Floor (Areas B and C2).
December:
Francisco Lopez - Francisco Lopez (Madrid, 1964) presents a sound installation "Untitled 0609", a project designed for a specific space and unusual spot in the museum. Located in the top level of the building Nouvel, dark rooms will be equipped with a sound system for the public to listen to the eight minute long piece with special acoustic characteristics and given context. Exhibition is from December 23, 2009 - January 25, 2010.
