During Winter 2008 the V&A is offering a wide choice of shows. However, check in advance for gallery closures and wheelchair access restrictions due to refurbishment.

The Victoria & Albert Museum is currently offering a number of outstanding exhibitions, both temporary and permanent. To enjoy these exhibitions to the full it is vital to check the V&A's website carefully in advance. A number of galleries are currently being refurbished which means that some are inaccessible to wheelchair users. In addition, it is wise to check that they are suitable for the children you might be taking. Furthermore, some events close soon after Christmas so check dates carefully to avoid disappointment.

Here is a small selection of some of the installations at the V&A.

  • Fashion V Sport (until 4 January 2009) looks at the influence of sportswear on high fashion. The show features 60 outfits including designs by Stella McCartney.
  • Cold War Modern: Design 1945-70 (until 11 January 2009) examines how design was influenced by the cold war period, the battle between communism and capitalism and the advances of the space race. The exhibition features objects from all over the world.
  • The Booker 40 at the V&A (until 17 May 2009) is an exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Booker and Man Booker Prize featuring winning and shortlisted books from the past forty years. Also on display is promotional material created by artist Jan Pienkowski.
  • Magnificence of the Tsars (10 December 2008 - 29 March 2009). Spanning the period 1721-1917 this exhibition features magnificent costumes from the collection of the Moscow Kremlin Museums. Embroidered coats and silk banyans worn by Tsar Peter II together with coronation uniforms and regalia of Paul I, Alexander I, Nicholas I, Alexander II and Alexander III will be on display.
  • The Olympic Stadium Project - Le Corbusier and Baghdad (until 29 March 2009). This exhibition looks at one of Le Corbusier's unfinished projects. In 1957 the architect started work on an impressive design for a sports stadium in Baghdad. The display features specially commissioned models and gives a real idea of what the stadium would have looked like if the project had gone ahead.
  • The Arts of Thailand, (permanent exhibition). This is one of the V&A's newest displays, created to celebrate the 80th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. Beautiful Buddhist sculptures and paintings will be shown alongside the museum's finest decorative Thai art.
  • The William and Judith Bollinger Jewellery Gallery, (permanent exhibition). This is another new gallery displaying more than 3,500 items of jewellery, from ancient Greece to the modern era. Highlights include a brooch, comb and earrings made for the Empress Josephine plus piecesmade by Cartier, Fabergé, Lalique, Boucheron and Tiffany.

Details of admission policies, opening times and all events linked to these exhibitions can be obtained from the Victoria & Albert Museum.
